On the simplest level, they gently assist the young beginner in the most basic understanding of the texts. At the same time however, the careful selection of phrasing provides the accomplished scholar with numerous profound insights and elucidations at every step of the way. The works of Rashi are at once the most elementary and the most advanced commentaries on the Torah and Talmud.
This course will take a biographical look at Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki, study some of his textual writings and delve into an in-depth analysis of the various layers of commentary hidden within each Rashi.
