This popular Torah study group, now celebrating its 16th year,
studies the text of the Torah verse by verse. This semester the study
group will focus on the Portion of Mishpatim, which details the civil
laws of the Jewish people.
The greatness of Judaism is not simply in its noble vision of a free, just
and compassionate society, but in the way it brings this vision down to
earth in detailed legislation. In fact, civil law in Judaism is not viewed
as secular law but as holy, spiritual and dear to G-d as the rituals.
The Ten Commandments contains the vision, but G-d is in the
details. Without the vision, law is blind. But without the details, the
vision floats in heaven. With them the divine presence is brought
down to earth, where we need it most.
You are invited to join this study group at any time during the semester.
