Charged with the grave crime of treason, Rabbi Schneur Zalman, the founder of Chabad Chassidism was arrested and imprisoned by the Czarist regime in the year 1798. His only “crimes” were his selfless efforts to strengthen the Jewish people and to disseminate Chassidic teachings. Ultimately he was cleared of the charges and released on the 19th of Kislev. The day has since become recognized as a historic milestone in the development of the Chassidic movement.

Rabbi Yakov Latowicz was born in Lodz Poland but grew up in Melbourne Australia, where he attended the Rabbinical College. In 1987 he met his wife Sarah, and they were invited by Rabbi Joshuah B. Gordon o.b.m. to become the Rebbe's Emissaries to the city of Ventura.
They have served in that capacity since the summer of 87.
